At Pennington Presbyterian, we believe that the Church is not simply a building or an institution, but rather a community of people, called by God, who belong to one another, and whose lives are being transformed by God’s love.
This conviction shapes everything that we do and say. Each weekend, we gather in-person and online for worship. We pray, sing, learn, and come to the table to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection until he comes again. Then, throughout the week, we follow the movement of God’s Spirit by caring for one another, serving together, working for God’s justice and reconciliation, and growing in our faith alongside others. We do all this because we believe that God has blessed us in order that we might be a blessing!
Rooted in Jesus
At Pennington Presbyterian, we are rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus. Together, as we fix our hearts and minds on Christ’s life, teachings, death, and resurrection, we experience God’s transforming power, which is making all things new. Right here! Right now! So, together, we focus on Jesus and follow the movement of the Spirit in new and ever-challenging ways.
Progressive PC(USA) Church
We believe that God is always reconciling and redeeming the world. God invites us to imagine, engage, and even contribute to the coming of God’s way on earth, as it is in heaven. We do that in many ways, such as working for justice, which is what love looks like in public. Another way is by fostering an inclusive community that sees God’s image in all humankind and celebrates the presence and gifts that come from a diversity in age, race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and belief.
Grow & Belong Together
We believe that we belong to one another, and that life and faith are meant to be done in community. Together, we are a community made up of children and elders, families and singles, straight and queer people, lifelong Christians, interfaith couples, converts, and seekers. We are committed to walking together through the journey of life, inspiring and engaging one another, at every stage, to live more fully into the transforming love of Jesus and joining the work of God’s Spirit for justice and reconciliation for all people.
Partner & Serve
Our community and neighborhood matter to us. We have long been involved in both mission and peacemaking endeavors locally and globally. Through dynamic partnerships, we support, serve, and champion the development of equitable and sustainable communities and resources. Throughout the year we respond to the needs in our community. Through the PC(USA)’s Matthew 25 initiative, we have committed ourselves to the ongoing work of eradicating systemic poverty and dismantling structural racism.
Becoming Friends of God
The Christian life is a journey of becoming God’s friends. Pennington Presbyterian Church is more than just a place. It is a community committed to inspiring and equipping disciples of Jesus as together we learn to love and be loved unconditionally, and to turn that love outwards to compassionate and life-giving work in the world. Gathering as God’s people, we expect to be both challenged and changed. As Jesus followers, we never stop growing.
