Our Children’s Ministry

We love our children at Pennington Presbyterian church.  From the moment of birth through confirmation, we provide lots of opportunities to nourish their budding Christian Faith.  Our leaders are faithful people who have been trained and equipped to create a meaningful and safe environment for every child.  Our church programs for children include:

Church School

Children are encouraged to participate in our Education Hour which meets on Sundays from September through May at 9:00am.

Our Pre-K class welcomes children into their first church school experience. The children enjoy spending time with gifted and skilled leaders who provide a great environment for care and learning.  Our Pre-K area uses Godly Play and Young Children and Worship stories and materials to tell of God’s love and hope for us through scripture.  This group meets in Room 102 in the Nursery School wing.

1st-4th Grade children meet for a time together with their leaders and friends, learning stories of the bible, gaining worship language and using materials to respond to their teaching times creatively.  This room is set up as a worship center and uses the Godly Play stories.  This group meets in the balcony and balcony room upstairs off the main entry way.

Gentle and loving adults offer care for infants and toddlers in our Nursery on Sunday mornings during both the education and worship hours. During our service, there will be a Time for Children. At this time all children gather for a special lesson given by our pastor, seminarian or lay person. At the conclusion, children in grades 2nd and older are invited to return to their families. Four-year-olds through 1st grade may participate in the Cherub Choir. Younger children may go to childcare in Room 102.

Family Ministry

Family Ministry focuses on the fellowship and nurturing of the families in our church. This group meets to plan church-wide family events throughout the year which connect to the themes and seasons of the church year. These fun, family-oriented activities help connect our families to each other, to our church, and to God.

Children’s Choirs

Starting at age 4 our children are invited to participate in our Music Program.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Five local congregations (St. James, St. Matthew’s, Pennington Methodist, First Assemblies of God and Pennington Presbyterian) are joining together this summer to offer a week-long, ecumenical Vacation Bible School program.  Normally the program meets here in our building.  Students age 4 through elementary school may register as participants.  High school students and adults join in the fun by volunteering in the program.

Pennington Presbyterian Nursery School

We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in 2011-2012

PPNS offers half-day, morning, and afternoon classes for two-, three-, and four-year-old children from September through June. Our philosophy is that a child’s work is play and that children learn to problem solve, care for others, and develop thinking skills through high-quality, intentional play experiences. We strive to create a loving and nurturing environment for all children in which they are valued for their individual learning styles and approaches to the world.
