We welcome our special guest Rev. Dr. Sonia Waters at worship on Sunday, February 11. – Dr. Waters is Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary and an Episcopal priest. She is a volunteer chaplain at Carrier Clinic’s addiction treatment center. She was a case manager in a domestic violence shelter and a hotline crisis counselor for a rape crisis center. Sonia’s new book about addiction will soon to be published by Eerdmans Publishing. Her sermonis titled “Addiction as Soul-Sickness.”

In the afternoon at 3 pm Rev. Dr. Waters will return to give a Science and Faith Lecture titled “The Brain and Addiction.” She will talk about how and why people become addicted, how addiction progressively changes the brain over time, and how individuals, people of faith, and the community can cultivate compassion and care. A Question and Answer period will follow the lecture. Special funds given to PPC are supporting this event as part of our on-going care for those with addictions and the people who love and care for them.

The public is cordially invited. As we know many are suffering and ultimately this issue impacts our whole society. Some may want to just learn while others are wrestling with very personal impacts. The presentation applies to both audiences. All are welcome.
