Here’s How to Get Involved in the Silent Service Auction

You should start by brainstorming with your family and friends for potential gifts of service that you can offer. Once you have your idea, put it is writing and send by text, or email to Pat or Sarah, or send a letter to the church office (to the attention of Sarah Gregg or Pat Coats) by September 22. If you want to discuss your idea, please call one of the organizers at the numbers provided below.
Here are some ideas to consider:

  • Baking or cooking: your specialty pie/cake/casserole/cupcakes/bread/etc. to be presented at a mutually convenient time. (Sarah has a wonderful memory of buying a son’s birthday cake at a silent auction, and he was thrilled and the baking help came at a perfect time!)

  • Teaching a skill: bridge lessons, computer skills, writing a resume, beginning genealogy, skills lessons like yoga, guitar, jewelry making, knitting, using a new piece of technology, how to make a bird house, how to set up a composting bin, etc.

  • Offering a labor of love: raking leaves; helping to plant flowers, bushes or bulbs; dog/cat sitting, dog walking, handyman services, car washing, sewing on wandering buttons, ironing, babysitting, tutoring, etc.

  • On-the-go needs: running errands; providing a ride to the airport or an appointment, etc.

  • There is also an opportunity to donate new items such as a quilt, other craft creations, etc.  If you own a vacation home, you could offer a weekend getaway!

Let your imagination soar and offer what inspires you! Thanks for your help in making this a wonderful success for a very worthwhile goal.

Donate your own “share” to the Scholarship Fund

Here’s another way to support Urban Promise during our fall Block Party.  Our goal for the block party is to raise $4000 for the Urban Promise Scholarship Fund, which is the basic cost for one student for a full year.  You have an opportunity to support this endeavor by purchasing one or more “shares” of a scholarship.  Each share is 40 dollars.  You can purchase one or more of these shares which go toward tuition, books, and meal plans for a college student. If we sell 100 shares, we can support a student for a year!

Donations can be made here:  https://pennpres.org/donate.  On the donation page, click “Operating Fund.”  Enter the amount you wish to donate, and write “UPT Scholarship” in the space for notes.

URBAN PROMISE TRENTON SCHOLARSHIP FUND

  • Urban Promise awards scholarships annually to students who have successfully participated in the “Street Leaders” program and who want to pursue higher education.

  • Scholarships are awarded for both community college students and students entering 4 year colleges and universities.

  • Students continue to be mentored by Urban Promise Staff. This allows Urban Promise to react to any immediate needs that may arise, to provide tutoring, and provide support to ensure success for each young person.

  • These scholarships allow students with barriers most of us wouldn’t ever think of, to graduate from college debt free!

  • You have an opportunity to support this endeavor by purchasing one or more “shares” of a scholarship. Each share is $40 dollars. You can purchase one or more of these shares which go toward tuition, books, and meal plans for a college student. If we sell 100 shares, we can support a student for a year!
