Facts of Interest Was known as Czechoslovakia until 1993. The Communist Party won the 1946 elections, and after a coup d’etat in 1948, it became a one party communist state.

A reform effort known as the Prague Spring in 1968 led to a Soviet invasion and Czechoslovakia remained occupied until the Velvet Revolution in 1989.

In 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved and two countries were formed-Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Czech Republic is the 6th most peaceful country in the world
