Children

Our Children’s Ministry

We love our children at Pennington Presbyterian church.  From the moment of birth through confirmation, we provide lots of opportunities to nourish their budding Christian Faith.  Our church programs for children include:

Church School

Children are encouraged to participate in our Education Hour which meets on Sundays from September through May at 9:00am.

Our preschool class welcomes 3 and 4 year old children into their first church school experience. The children enjoy Bible stories, conversation, songs, crafts, snack and free play. Friends are made and faith is nurtured each Sunday morning.

J.A.M.! (Jesus and Me!) is a program for children in grades K-5.   JAM uses a rotation workshop curriculum that spends four weeks on a particular Bible story or theme. Each of the four weeks the children rotate with their adult shepherds to a new workshop including games, art, drama, storytelling, puppets and movie. Fun hands-on learning experiences bring the Bible to life for these young learners. The children begin in Lower Titus for an opening time and then go with adult shepherds to their workshops. Visit J.A.M. page for more information.

Childcare

Gentle and loving adults offer care for infants and toddlers in our Nursery on Sunday mornings during both the education and worship hours. During our service, there will be a Time for Children. At this time all children gather for a special lesson given by our pastor, seminarian or lay person. At the conclusion, children in grades 2nd and older are invited to return to their families. Four-year-olds through 1st grade may participate in the Cherub Choir. Younger children may go to childcare in Room 102.

Family Ministry

Family Ministry focuses on the fellowship and nurturing of the families in our church. This group meets to plan church-wide family events throughout the year which connect to the themes and seasons of the church year. These fun, family-oriented activities help connect our families to each other, to our church, and to God.

Children’s Choirs

Starting at age 4 our children are invited to participate in our Music Program.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Four local congregations (St. James, St. Matthew’s, Pennington Methodist and Pennington Presbyterian) join together each summer to offer a week-long, ecumenical Vacation Bible School program.  Normally the program meets here in our building.  Students age 3 through middle school may register as participants.  High school students and adults join in the fun by volunteering in the program.

Celebrating our 50th Anniversary in 2011-2012

PPNS offers half-day, morning, and afternoon classes for two-, three-, and four-year-old children from September through June. Our philosophy is that a child’s work is play and that children learn to problem solve, care for others, and develop thinking skills through high-quality, intentional play experiences. We strive to create a loving and nurturing environment for all children in which they are valued for their individual learning styles and approaches to the world.
